How did I start making ultrasound commissions?
I don't have kids, but I have lots of friends who have kids. I kept going to baby showers and I saw a lot of gifts that were practical and of course very much needed! Nipple cream, diapers, blankets, parents rejoice! However I'm very sentimental and I wondered how I could make their pregnancy a little extra special. I decided that I would put my art skills to use!
I decided that I would recreate their ultrasounds! I figured it would give them a new twist on how they would be displayed and it would give them a special personal touch!
What's the process of recreating an ultrasound for me (the artist)?
First of recreating an ultrasound is really precious to me. It's a sacred responsibility to allow me to take your baby's first picture and transfer it into a piece of artwork. When I set up to create I check in with myself. I want to be in the best space possible energy wise. I want to be of positive mind and spirit simply because I know that this is what you will be taking into your home. I understand that this artwork is possibly going to be in your baby's room, it will be a gift to a family member, maybe it will be a gift to a mom to be or to grandparents to keep as a keepsake.
That's why I want to make sure that the energy in this artwork is at its highest.
The other part of this for me is that I am preserving the process of another life. This is so precious to me because I realize I'm helping you preserve a special moment in time that only you and baby will ever understand.
My wish is that when you look at the final product it will fill you with joy!
What materials do you use?
There are two types of paints I use for the ultrasounds, acrylic or watercolor.
To make the watercolor ultrasound I use professional quality watercolor paint. I use 140 lbs acid free watercolor paper.
To make the acrylic ultrasound I use professional quality paint. I use a flat canvas.
The reason I make it a point to use professional paints, paper, and canvas is because when student grade or other poor quality paints are used to create artwork it can reduce the quality of the product.
Poor quality paints won't stand up well to artwork that is near sunlight. The colors will fade or change color. A poor quality paper or canvas can contain acid which will also affect the colors of the paint.
It's crucial to use quality materials to help preserve the longevity of the recreated ultrasound!
What's the process of recreating the ultrasound for you (the customer)?
When you arrive at my shop you will see this page below.

STEP 1:
Here you will be able to choose the size of the artwork. Then you will be able to choose if it's done in acrylic or watercolor.
You will be able to customize it by adding special details. Most of the time customers choose to add only the baby's name. While others might want to add name, birthday if it's known, and weight.
Keep in mind that adding to much might crowd the painting, but also know that I will do my very best to add the details as best as I can!
If you don't want anything added and you only want the ultrasound simply write in the notes, "I DO NOT WISH TO ADD ANY PERSONALIZED DETAILS". Etsy's system won't let you proceed if you leave this portion blank.
STEP 2:
After you finish paying I will receive a message with your order. I will contact you to get your copy of the ultrasound in .jpg, .pdf, or .png form.
Once I receive the ultrasound I will send you a couple color combinations or you can tell me if you have a color scheme in mind.
STEP 3:
Once the color scheme is finalized I will begin working on the ultrasound itself.
STEP 4:
I will send you a progress picture where you can provide feedback. This is your chance to make any small changes that may need adjustment.
STEP 5:
I will send you a final picture of the product for your approval. At this point with your approval I will send the product to you. This a final sale, which means that there are no refunds. If you wish to receive a refund before the product is shipped that option is available. Once the item is approved there won't be any refunds issued.
